One of the first scientific journals was the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. It was established by the Royal Society of London in 1665. One of the most important international political science journals is the British Journal of Political Science. Comparative Political Studies

Another major scientific journal is Comparative Political Studies, a peer-reviewed academic journal published by SAGE Publications. The editors are David J. Samuels of the University of Minnesota and Benjamin W. Asnell of the University of Oxford. The journal publishes methodological, theoretical and research articles in the field of comparative politics at both the international and national levels. Issues are published monthly. The journal was founded in 1968. The impact factor of the journal is 2.919 as of 2017.

Acta Politica

Acta Politica is a quarterly peer-reviewed political science journal published by Palgrave Macmillan on behalf of the Netherlands Association for Political Science. The chief editors are Kees Aarts and Ingrid van Biesen. The journal is abstracted and indexed in the International Bibliography of Social Sciences, as well as in the ProQuest, Scopus, Social Sciences Citation Index, CSA Sociological databases. According to Journal Citation Reports, the journal had an Impact Factor of 0.773 in 2016.
